Where can I download Clusterix?

The first release of Clusterix has finally been released :-) It is named 0.1-1a_pre-release, "Cold Fusion." You can download it here

What major features does it include over Morphix?

The major features Clusterix 0.1-1a includes are the following:

  • A fully updated base mod taken from the 0.4-1e and the 0.5-pre1 base releases of Morphix
  • A graphical grub menu using the gfxboot-grub package
  • The 2.4.22 kernel patched with the openMosix, Squashfs, Bootsplash, and Knoppix patches
  • A fully functional Busybox Ash during initial boot for more options
  • The use of Squashfs compressed base and main mods
  • An upgraded mainmod (some packages have not been upgraded)
  • Desktop environments, featuring Xfce and XPde.
  • And all cluster management tools, including OpenMosixView.

Why are you creating another live-cd distro with openMosix?

At that time I write this, there are no other Morphix-like distros to have the openMosix software. Because of this, I'd like to create one that not only has this software but all mods I create for Morphix whether they are included into Morphix proper or not.

What hardware does Clusterix support?

Clusterix currently only supports x86 hardware, ie Wintel boxes. This is mainly due to the fact that certain parts are x86 only, especially openMosix and XPde. In the future, there are plans to release some other ports of Clusterix if openMosix is ported to them. As for other bits of the hardware (like PCI cards), Clusterix supports just about everything that Linux supports.

Whats with XPde, and why was it included?

XPde is a MS Windows like desktop environment. The main reason for inclusion was that I had already installed it to a Morphix mainmod for the Morphix project, so I wanted to also include it with this project. Both XPde 0.4 and 0.5 were included because the older version is quite slow, yet contains many features, and the newer one was totally recoded so it runs much faster, but doesn't have many features. For more information, please check out http://www.xpde.com.

What packages are included with the current release of Clusterix?

I have set up a page of all packages here.

Where can I find more documentation on Clusterix??

At this point, I'm am developing a wiki that will contain most of the documentation for Clusterix. It can be found here.

Where would I get more information on how Clusterix and Morphix is made?

The best place for information on Morphix and Morphix-like distros is http://www.morphix.org. If you need specific help with Clusterix, please either visit our forum, come by the #morphix IRC channel (I'm there most of the day), or email me.

I found a bug in the software. What should I do about it?

If you have found a bug in the software, please submit a report about it on our BugTracker. If you'd like to discuss the bug with the developers first, please visit the Bug Forum.

I'd love to help on this project. How can I start?

The best way for anyone to help at this time is to test the first release as long and hard as you can :-) If you find any bugs, please write a message in our forums about it and hopefully it will get fixed by the next release. Or, better yet, go ahead and fix the bug and let me know how you did it.
